Our Process /
-
In this complimentary meeting conducted virtually or at your home (if local), you share your proposed scope of work and ballpark budget for your design project. We share our design process and fee structure.
-
Based on the initial consultation, we prepare a detailed scope proposal outlining the scope of services, timeline, design fee, and an anticipated start week based on our current projects. We request a signed contract and a non-refundable deposit in order to lock in a start date to begin work.
-
Once our contracted designer-client relationship is established, we send you a comprehensive questionnaire and a mood/style inspiration board to fill for your design project. Then, we meet with you to review the questionnaire and mood/style inspirations to ensure we capture all your use cases and stylistic goals/preferences.
-
We visit your home for a site measure and photo documentation (sometimes multiple times). Where appropriate, we may arrange to have the trades visit your home as well for estimating purposes.
-
After understanding your personal style and use cases and gathering all the requirements of the project, we design an initial proposal for you review. In this meeting, we review together the general design concepts and color schemes along with floor, furniture, and contractor (custom millwork, plumbing, electrical, or any other general contractor work in scope) plans.
-
Based on feedback from the Phase I: Initial Design Proposal, we submit a finalized proposal including final design and furnishings selections. We prepare physical and digital design boards, which include images and material samples to help you visualize the full design concept. Creating the final design proposal for your review is a time-consuming process and may take several weeks or longer to prepare, depending on the scope of your project.
-
As a fast-follow to Phase II: Final Design Proposal, we prepare an estimated budget based on the accepted final proposal. Once the budget is approved, you provide signature approval and payment for the design proposal with the finalized budget. Timely approval of the final design is crucial for maintaining accurate pricing, ensuring availability, and keeping the project on schedule.
-
As part of the accepted final design proposal and budget, you receive a detailed document with images that outlines items to be purchased along with all known associated costs (e.g. freight and delivery are often billed at a later date). Certain items specified must be paid in full at purchase time (e.g. fabric for reupholstering and vintage or off the shelf items). We organize a purchasing meeting for you to utilize our trade relationships and discount pricing. In this meeting, you are fully responsible for payment of goods and services.
-
Based on the project scope, we will recommend the best contractors/trades. The contractors will provide us with a negotiated bid and timeline for all proposed work in the design proposal. Please note that you will enter into contracts with contractors/trades directly. We do not enter into contracts with contractors/trades on behalf of the clients.
As needed, scheduled pre- and post-construction meetings along with onsite visits during construction will be conducted, ensuring the design is executed perfectly. We create detailed schedules by room by item. We update you via email as the project progresses and timelines update.
-
When possible, we oversee deliveries and installations including furniture, lighting, window treatments, and rug placement. If possible, the majority of the installation will take place on one given day or a few consecutive days for the best results. At this time, we recommend additional decor and accessories on approval and style your home with a first layer of detail.
-
After installation and styling, a punch list consisting of anything in need of completion/touch up will be compiled. We work through each item on the list as quickly and efficiently as possible.
-
Once the design installation is completed, we will arrange a convenient date to style and professionally photograph the space for our portfolio. It often takes a full day or more depending on the project to do this. We will schedule this time with you when you are able to let us use the space freely for the required amount of time.
A note on artwork /
As part of the overall design proposal, we may recommend artwork in your space. We can source and recommend artists we love or even create custom artwork for you, but since we believe art is deeply personal, we encourage you to spend some time discovering artists whose work resonates with you. Then, we can help you hone in specific pieces from artists you love that would work beautifully in your space. For the best results, we can arrange for the art to be hung by professional installers.
